Wedding & Portrait Photography

After doing an engagement session(two blog posts) and a suit fitting session(which I’ll have to blog later) I finally got to shoot Lauren and Desaray’s wedding.
They got ready at their townhouse in Old Town Alexandria Virginia. Lauren had a custom suit made for her which looked so amazing. The deep chocolate color and stripes made me love it even more. Desaray, as you will see, picked up a vintage dress with a peacock on it!

I love when couples get ready together. Getting to spend the whole day together allows you to share the building excitement and really help each other.

Next up: Group shots and pre-ceremony build up!

So after the excitement of the weddings and mini golf, we took off our shoes and put on slippers to play in the Mayflower Inn Spa. We were tip toeing around, trying not to disturb the other guests but get some great photos too.

The dining room has this killer table with candles and flowers and I just wanted to take it home! The room just was the definition and calm with cool, white colors and yummy tea to sip on.

Out side we went again to finnish the day!

Ending the day on a kiss sounds like a good plan :) Next Friday Jess and Rita will be getting married in Brooklyn. So lucky me gets to go shoot them again!

Rita and Jess are having their actual wedding with friends and family at the end of September, which I so can not wait to photograph. But their friends treated them to a few nights at the Mayflower Inn in Connecticut and they decided that was where they would have their civil ceremony. I’m now offering packages designed just for LGBT couples going up to Connecticut or any other New England state to get legally married. I shoot your ceremony and then we go and take couples pictures all over, having a blast and perhaps some champagne like Jess and Rita!

After the ‘Waiiiit, we’re married!!’ moment, we hugged, drank champagne and then proceeded to go have fun!

There is more! I promise. After golf we went to the spa and got to take a few quick snaps…I’ll share those this week!

As you can see, it was raining at Mercedes and Matt’s engagement session. At times, not just raining but pouring! But after a coffee at an amazing German cafe, we played around Georgetown and happened upon two amazing things: A vespa and a bicycle built for two. Their wedding planning has been frustrating at times(a wedding planner they hired went MIA with their money) but ultimately, is coming along to bring these two families together.

May I say thank you to whoever parked their Vespa in the alley!

Mercedes was in the Army and that’s how Matt and her met: Overseas. May I say it blows my mind that Mercedes can balance in 4 inch heels and kick butt in basic training in the Army? Booyah!

If you have been to my portfolio website in the last day, you might think you’re going crazy, but don’t worry, you’re not. I am officially changing my business name to Kelly Prizel Photography.

I felt it was a great time to do so as 1) I moved to a state where I know no one 2) I’m legally married to my wife now so I could easily change my last name officially 3) My favorite graphic designer in the world came back from vacation.

So right now I’m:

  • Having a new logo, business card and various other things designed. I seriously love working with graphic designers that know what they are doing. For example, would I ever have thought of using these three colors together? No. Do I heart it so hardcore my little heart that loves paper jumps up and down? YES!

  • Changing EVERYTHING online is such a pain, but a must do. Wedding Wire, google profile, URL’s, etc…
  • Telling all my former and current clients about the name change…gak, I got to do that!
