Wedding & Portrait Photography

Andy and Shiami married in the middle of fall in this alcove the Fuller Craft Museum house between building. They set up some decor to define the ceremony space which I happen to always love because 1. it looks great in photos 2. it helps attendants/officiants know where to go! And my favorite part of the set up were two chalkboard leaning against two pillars that serves as a program. It stated who was the officiant, the attendants, and various other info. Perfectly eco-friendly and an easy DIY project to boot!

The reception was lit with pink and orange lights that tied in with their bright colored decoration. With a friend DJ’ing and lots of air guitar from Andy, the night was packed full of sweaty guests dancing up a storm. The last dance was “Don’t Stop Believing” which got everyone into full air guitar mode and a huuuuge hug at the end. It was so fun to stand and just watch everyone squish Shiami and Andy into a giant hug.

I love this shot! I grabbed them literally 15 seconds after their ceremony to do a few couple shots. Perfect time to get shots the just are packed with joy you can’t get at any other time during the day. Or ever again. It’s this special time window that is just amazing to share with them and capture.

I love museum weddings. It may have to do with the fact I went to college in the basement of one- but I just love that it’s a different kind of venue. And the Fuller Craft Museum is full of fun little nooks and crannies filled with artwork- mostly textile and installations- which makes it all the better. And of course, with Shiami and Andy, I knew it was going to be a fun day. These two are just filled to the brim with laughter. Two business/computer geeks who fell in love.

So the getting ready was easy. The flowers arrived and I was happy as a clam. I love me some bright flowers! I love lots color and texture and that’s exactly what Spruce Floral did. I knew Shiami had good taste, ha! A very important detail for Shiami was the picture locket of her parents attached to her bouquet. It was such a lovely way to honor her parents who had passed away. And unbelievable, her mother’s wedding ring fit on her pinky, which she wore throughout the day.

Andy and Shiami really made the wedding day full of details that really made the day reflect them: from the Boston map cufflinks, to Andy’s converse shoes with their wedding date on them, I was constantly finding new things to photograph and smile about. Can you tell I love these guys?

My amazing second shooter, Lara Swanson, and I scoped out an amazing field near the Fuller Craft Museum for portraits and we went to town.

So the ceremony was short and perfect- exactly what they had wanted. Their recessional song? Push It by Salt N Peppa. And now all the guests could finally see the tent Yarrow had spent so much time designing and crafting details for. And right beyond the tent? A chair swing!! And mini golf! And amusement park booth games! Everyone was excited to chat but they really wanted to get on the rides. The rest of the night was filled by yummy Indian food dinner, served buffet style so people could keep on the rides a bit longer if they liked. And then everyone was laughing and just trying out all the games. I loved how Yarrow’s grandpa totally got into the mini golf- keeping score with his granddaughter and all. As the sunset, the chair swing lights came on and lit everything up while some sparklers the couple provided proved to be a hit.

The giant rainstorm that had threatened all day finally burst and forced everyone in the tent to talk, admire the DIY goodness, and just enjoy the sound of the rain on the tent after an exhausting day of so much fun.
