Connecticut Rock The Dress

Kate and Kevin got married at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake. You can see their wedding over here and here. But I wasn’t done with them yet- oh no! We had to do a rock the dress session in East Rock. So we headed out and actually did a mini hike- me in my regular clothes and Kate in her wedding dress. We found a great stone wall they loved but I soon realized I could take maaaybe 3 steps before falling off the tiny ledge we were standing on. But we got the shot we wanted which seemed to be the theme of the day. They told me about this fallen log in the swamp, so of course I get excited and insisted we go check it out. They managed to walk on the log into the middle of the swamp and pose. And then we all realized that for me to get the shot I had to be in the middle of the swamp. With no log. As in, swamp mud up to my ankles and me trying not to sink farther. They totally made it look effortless in the pictures, but they had to work some serious muscle to keep standing up straight, in the postions I wanted, all while balancing on this log. I think we all earned a gold star for effort, ha.

Trash The Dress Asbury, Park NJ

So this week it’s all about Sarah and Nicole. I’m switching things up by posting their Trash The Dress shoot before their actual wedding because I literally was editing them yesterday and am just twitching to share them.

Sarah and Nicole got married in Asbury Park, NJ and you’ll find out more about their wedding tomorrow, but we decided that their Trash The Dress shoot should be in the same awesome location. They had fallen in love with the funky vibe that Asbury Park has and the fact it’s full of gay people and families. Seriously, I saw at least 4 or 5 lesbian moms having fun on the beach with their kids. I was melting from the cuteness.

So I finally get to NJ (long story) and there are red flags on the beach. Meaning rip tides and strong waves. Ok, I thought, we can make this work. So we shot around the boardwalk, leaving the actual jumping in the ocean part till the end. And when we finally got in the water we quickly found out the waves were big and strong. I was trying to keep my feet firmly planted in the sinking sand so me and my camera equipment didn’t become one big wet mess. And Sarah and Nicole were trying to keep their faces from being “Holy shit I’m about to fall every time a wave hits me” in each picture. Which was a real issue. But with the crazy waves and balance issues they couldn’t stop laughing. It was crazy but it was fun! Here we are, in the ocean, with reds flags on the beach, in their wedding dresses.

For the last shots, I had them sit on some awesome rocks going into the ocean but didn’t realize, d’uh, perfect spot for a goods rip tide. So a big wave came and Nicole was literally hanging on to the rock she was sitting on. We quickly moved her to safer ground, and snapped a few more pictures. We were all soaking at this point, covered in sand, and laughing like crazy. Which made me realize, I LOVE trash the dress sessions.

New York City Subway Trash The Dress or Suit or Wedding Attire

So I haven’t posted Mandy and Bekah’s wedding yet because it’s being blogged about over on So You’re EnGAYged (read all of Mandy’s posts) but I AM blogging about their Day After Session in NYC. The funny thing about New York is that most people totally ignore all the crazy/weird things going on but a girl in a wedding dress that’s letting her dress drag on the ground…people get all kinds of upset. Lots of comments/people coming up to warn Mandy.

We had lots of fun. I got to hear all about New York and all the people from the wedding the night before. And it was nice to run around NYC without a broken foot like the engagement session. Let me tell you…subways are a bitch with a broken foot. New York needs to work on its accessibility. For reals.

Rock Creek Park Washington DC: Trash The Dress or get it slightly wet

So I had to end up going with showing Caron and Deborah’s Trash The Dress shoot first because I’m having a horrid time choosing my top 10 favorite images from their wedding the day before.

Deborah and Caron are the singers/musicians behind the band Deborah Vial which is big in the Texas area. They are now semi-retired and live in Hawaii but when they heard that DC legalized gay marriage- they decided to plan their wedding for DC in just a few weeks. I’ll blog more about their wedding when I post it- but the next day we headed over to Rock Creek Park in DC and decided to get our feet in the river. Nothing too drastic as they were tired from the wedding day and it was *cold*. Note to self: when shooting in a river, wear crocs as river rocks are sharp and slippery.

Forgive me for posting so many images of just Deborah but I’m slightly obsessed with her purple dress. Like, way obsessed.

Hotel Monaco Wedding Dreams II

So after using the amazing Hotel Monaco staircase for a bijillion photos, we headed all over the hotel. The marble in this hotel is just everywhere. I love how marble looks in black and white photos- and so does Mercedes! She asked me to do a majority of their photos in black and white. And who am I to say no? I love black and white photos. They are so classic.
