Connecticut & NYC Gay Wedding Photographer

Kate and Garrett’s wedding proves that winter weddings in the city can be cozy and romantic. And they had what can only be called a Winterlicious wedding. Snow in the forecast. Multi-colored long-sleeved gloves for the bridesmaids. And, not one, but TWO capes.

The wedding was also a classic New Haven wedding. Kate and Garrett chose the famous Union League Cafe as their venue: Union League weddings are known for their mouth-watering food and a quintessential New Haven vibe. And being downtown, we got to hit up a bunch of awesome spots: the alleyway next to Kitchen Zinc with the graphic red shapes, Yale, and of course, Shake Shack for some chilly-day ice cream. We actually got the ice cream for free: a bride with the flu needing some soothing custard tugged at the heartstrings of the employees.

Best parts of the evening:
1) The lights strung in the alley next to Union League. Gorgeous.
2) The snow! We got some big fat flakes tumbling down late in the evening, which made for some killer romantic shots. Kate had literally been crossing her fingers all year for snow on the wedding day, and when they finally happened we were all like, “YAAAAAAAAAAY!”
3) Kate’s hair. As a curly hair girl, I love getting the chance to shoot girls who keep their hair natural on their wedding day. And Kate’s curls just go to show how working with your hair texture makes you look like *you*, only you about to get married. Remember her her hair down?
4) The fact that Kate and Garrett’s first dance was to “Life’s a Happy Song” from The Muppets. I don’t need to explain how awesome this is.

January in New Haven, CT // Weather: Cold and Snowy // Favorite light time for shots: 3:50pm//

Getting Ready: 2:00 // Dress on: 3:00 // First Look: 3:40 // Couple Shots: 3:50-4:30 // Group Shots: 4:45
Ceremony Start: 6:15 // Reception Started: 7:18 // First Dance: 9:36

Venue Love: Right in the heart of downtown New Haven, you just have access to everything! // Fun thing to think about: Having a winter wedding? Embrace it and wear a cute cape to keep warm.

Lesson learned: Do the group shots in a room or outside, away from the ceremony location. With so much going on to setup the room, it can be really distracting and increase stress.

Best thing ever: Their first dance song “Life’s A Happy Song” from the Muppets movie.
